The importance of having a routine :)

Since joining the gym (3 months ago), I have this new-found appreciation for having a healthy exercise routine! Before joining a gym, I found that I was very inconsistent with my exercise such as going for walks about 3 times a week to then going for long walks every second week, or I had amazing workout plans to do lunges, squats, sit ups then after the second week I slowly forgot this amazing plan to get fit! I found myself to be very lethargic, lacking in concentration and my diet was completely out of whack.

The point of me writing this post? Well I just wanted to share the idea of how important a well-balanced routine is and how much it has improved my health and even the outlook of my future! As I do freelance modelling, I thought to myself that it was important to feel and look good and therefore this will shine throughout my shoots. To be a model it is vital to have a healthy lifestyle as it is a career that focuses heavily on your looks and your ability to portray a healthy figure (however this may not be the case for some models and they appear to be way too thin!).

Since joining the gym I have been feeling great! My body is slowly starting to look more toned and lean, I am able to concentrate a whole lot better, I’m eating better, my skin looks great and feeling fit is one of the greatest feelings in the world! You feel like you can accomplish and take on anything!

So, what does my routine at the gym involved?

Just remember, this routine I’m about to speak of doesn’t only apply for working out at the gym..this can be done at the leisure of your own home.

Routine involves:

  • 20-30 minute of cardio. So this consists of 10-15 mins of cross trainer and 15-20 mins of the treadmill. occasionally I fit in Cycling but not a huge fan of that.
  • Weights: This includes working on my Abs, leg press and a bit on the arms too
  • Floor work: This consists of a whole range of things such as lunges with weights, step ups on blocks, push ups….this all depends on how much time I have and my energy levels for the day.
  • Warm down: This is vital, especially for my routine of strenuous work! I really want to increase my flexibility so I do lots of stretches to increase my flexibility and most importantly, I do planks as its great for the core muscles!

Beauty tip #5!

My beauty tip for you all this week involves haircare…

Do you find that your hair over time has become brittle or damaged after using heat products?

Well my tip is to let your hair dry naturally as often as possible. As I have mentioned in a previous post that I have very tight, crazy curls, its best to let it dry naturally rather than using a hairdryer which ruins my curls and causes my hair to split.

Its easier though in the warmer weather to go out in the sun and let it dry naturally so it might be harder in the winter time, especially when in a rush to get somewhere! Honestly though, let your hair dry naturally without any heating products for a month and you will see a difference in the health of your hair! Also try and put an oil (I use Argan oil) in your hair while letting it dry, your hair will love it!

Beauty tip #4!

Hello lovelies, How has your week been?

The next tip I’m sharing involves the idea that beauty comes from the inside out.

This means that whatever you put into your body can radiate out through your skin, hair, eyes, and nails. If you eat bad food all the time, your hair won’t be as shiny and your skin won’t be as clear.

In regards to consuming good stuff for your body, I have the morning ritual of drinking herbal teas before having breakfast. I used to be a heavy coffee drinker but then I cut down to Green tea, only to discover that green tea still has caffeine in it! I then changed to herbal teas which is so incredibly refreshing and light and it has even improved the appearance of my hair and especially my skin!

My favourite herbal tea is Lemongrass and Ginger which helps with digestion and immune system. When I’m sick I drink lots of this and feel better in no time!

So my tip is, All the things you consume has an effect on your appearance. For something light and cleansing, opt for drinking herbal teas and cut down on coffee as your skin will clear and look amazing!

Results would vary depending on the person but its something I wanted to share with you all!

Beauty tip #2!

Here is my second beauty tip for you all!

Always and I mean, ALWAYS remove your make up before going to sleep!

Make up products, especially really cheap products creates dirt and blocks the pores. At night is when our body heals and repairs itself, so it is vital that the skin should be fresh, clean and free of any product so the skin is less likely to break out due to blocked pores or oily skin.

I do have to admit that when it was a few years back when I went out to parties/clubbing, I had sometimes forgotten to take my make up off when staying at a friend’s place or couldn’t be bothered removing it when coming home late at night. The next day when I woke up, my skin felt disgusting and guess what? I started getting lumps and bumps all over my face!

Since completing my modelling course and being a freelance model, I have really learnt to really look after my skin and I have even gotten to the point where I don’t even wear make up anymore! I only wear make up for photoshoots and when going out! On a daily basis for just say, uni and work, I pop on a bit of tinted moisturizer to give me a bit of coverage but still allow my skin to breathe and before bed I always make sure to cleanse my skin and moisturizer to keep it looking healthy and fresh!

Beauty tip #1

Hi everyone!

I thought it would be a good idea to share my own beauty tips weekly to you all!

My first beauty tip is: Always wear sunscreen when heading outside, especially in the summer time! It will protect you from skin cancer and delay the aging process on your youthful skin!

If you’re an Aussie then you might have heard this quite a lot due to the harsh UV rays and the prevalence of skin cancer, however, UV rays and sunshine can also encourage premature aging and can damage the skin significantly.

If you want to keep your youthful, supple skin and have less wrinkles, then slip, slop, slap is the way to go!

I understand that some girls like to wear make up everyday, but why don’t you switch to tinted moisturizers? Some contain a bit of SPF for a bit of protection and they can also provide a light coverage without it clogging your pores.

I use KORA Organics By Miranda Kerr tinted moisturizer* and it is incredible for my skin while containing a bit of sunscreen to protect me. Even if you can’t afford tinted moisturizer, just keeping the skin clean and clear and add a bit of sunscreen to your face, chest, arms (First things to show signs of aging!) before heading out the door, particular if it is a very warm day!

KORA Organics- Encouraged me to live a healthier and happier lifestyle!

DSCF0164 Just wanted to share with you all a skincare product which has changed my life for the better. You’re probably thinking..’How does a skincare range change someones life? (Maybe not those exact words but you know what I mean haha!)It started off with me meeting Miranda Kerr back in 2011 (I have also met her for the second time just recently but I’ll keep that one for another post :P) and she was in Melbourne David Jones to promote her product, KORA Organics as well as her book ‘Treasure Yourself’. At the time I didn’t know much about the product or the amazing ingredients it contained but since listening to what Miranda Kerr had to say, I said to myself why not try it out!

Around the time that I met her, my beautiful and caring mother passed away due to Breast Cancer. It was a difficult time and still is difficult now. Thank god for my supportive family and friends who helped me through it. I also tried to keep a normal routine but I did have my down days too.

The book I mentioned above, ‘Treasure Yourself’, was such an inspirational, heartwarming book in which Miranda shared her own experiences in the modelling industry and personal issues she dealt with. Reading this really helped me deal with grief as she provides an outlook that people will always be there for support and to take it a day at a time. She also provides a whole range of affirmations at the back of the book which was lovely, especially on the days when I’m feeling upset about my mother.

So what does this have to do with KORA?

Well Kora organics really helped me open my eyes to the importance of nurturing the body and since my mum died of cancer, I needed to be grateful of how healthy I am and how important it is to look after yourself. Every single day I say…’Wow, look at me..I am healthy, I am strong and need to continue to treasure my body and my mind’. (The affirmations in Treasure Yourself is great for a positive booster!)

I wish mum was here to see how I am today but as Miranda Kerr said to me last time I met her (8/2/13) ‘My mother will always be in my heart and watching over me’ ❤
